FAU to Celebrate Hispanic Latino Heritage Month
Florida Atlantic University will celebrate Hispanic Latino Heritage Month on FAU’s Boca Raton, Jupiter, Broward and Treasure Coast campuses. Hispanic Latino Heritage Month highlights the contributions of Hispanic Americans and provides an opportunity to learn about the cultures from which they come.
A sample of events taking place in September and October in honor of Hispanic Latino Heritage Month include:
BOCA RATON CAMPUS
Opening Ceremony
Wednesday, September 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join the festivities as FAU’s Division of Student Affairs and the FAU Hispanic and Latino community launch the Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month activities. Be entertained and educated by live storytelling of tales from Latin America while feasting on grilled chicken, plantains, black beans and rice, and freshly cooked paella made on-site. Come learn about the Hispanic and Latino resources within the local community.

Mirta Ojito, Pulitzer-prize winner, FAU alumna and author of Finding Mañana, will give a lecture about her life and book, as well as sign books. Finding Mañana, a memoir of the Cuban exodus, is FAU’s freshman reading book for 2010.

Hispanic Heritage Exhibit

Second Avenue Studio, Fort Lauderdale campus

The Hispanic Heritage Exhibit offers a tour of the grand accomplishments of Hispanics/Latinos in America, as well as from those around the world. This traveling museum has more than 100 artifacts, including rare photos, biographies and video documentaries.

Hispanic Latino Heritage Month Kickoff

The Hispanic Latino Heritage Month Kickoff will be an arts and crafts festival providing an opportunity for attendees to work on arts and crafts representing different Hispanic/Latino backgrounds. Free food will be provided to participants.
