Dr. G. Kurt Piehler, author of Remembering War the American Way and World War II in the American Soldiers’ Lives Series, will lecture on his research on Franklin D. Roosevelt’s attempt to bring religious leaders into the war effort. Piehler concludes that Roosevelt, in making the case for war prior to Pearl Harbor, argued that Nazi Germany threatened American national security and sought to snuff out religion. He argues that the Roosevelt administration and the American military extolled the values of religious belief and practice, as well as implemented policies that stressed ecumenicalism and tolerance on the armed forces. Piehler is founding director of the Rutgers Oral History Archives of World War II.

The Korfs donated their papers and memorabilia to FAU Libraries in 1999, and also created the K. Frank and Rita Korf Collection Endowed Fund, which provides money for scholars to come to FAU and deliver a lecture on an area of research important to Kurt Frank Korf. Among those topics are World War II, Germany in the 1920s and 1930s, and German immigration to the United States.
